Graham Potter: 'Some Brighton & Hove Albion fans will feel boos were over the top'

Graham Potter believes some Brighton & Hove Albion supporters will now feel that their booing after Saturday's goalless draw with Leeds United was "over the top".

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Graham Potter has reiterated his 'confusion' with supporters booing after Saturday's goalless draw with Leeds United and believes some fans will now feel that their reaction was "over the top".

The Seagulls have failed to win any of their last nine matches across all competitions but are currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table, seven points and seven places better off than at this stage last season.

Potter believes the communication between supporters and the club is important and insists that their opinions are taken on board.

"After a game there's emotions, and I think people sometimes, when they reflect back, think 'Maybe I got caught up in stuff'," the 46-year-old said to the press ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with West Ham United.

"The reaction was a bit confusing from my perspective. It wasn't all of our supporters, it was a few, and as disappointing as it is, you have to accept that, that's the world we're in.

"I think it's also important to communicate with supporters, because they're the most important people at the club. So if you think they can maybe help a little bit more, then I think it's important we're able to communicate with them."

Potter added: "When you look at the team we had (against Leeds), a lot of the young players, you look at the performance, at where we sit in the Premier League... I think if we want to achieve our goals, we have to maybe collectively be a bit better than we were.

"I'm sure there'll be people that maybe had that reaction and maybe now are going 'OK, maybe that was a little bit over the top'.

"I just thought after that performance, it wasn't the best, but it's a minority. I've had loads of messages from supporters being really positive. It is what it is. I think it's important to listen to each other. They're entitled to their opinion, and I'm entitled to mine."

Brighton will be looking to claim their first win in any competition since September 22 when they travel to London to face top-four challengers West Ham, a team they have drawn against in each of their last five meetings.
