West Ham United reportedly held off competition from Bayern Munich to sign Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old joined the Hammers in a £45m deal in the middle of July, and the striker has scored three times in three Premier League appearances at the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

According to Frankfurter Rundschau, Bayern had wanted Haller as back-up for Robert Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena.

However, the report claims that the Bundesliga champions were not prepared to meet Frankfurt's asking price for a player who scored 20 times in all competitions last season.

Haller found the back of the net on two occasions in West Ham's 3-1 win at Watford on August 24 before scoring against Norwich City on home soil last time out.

Manuel Pellegrini's side will be looking to make it four straight wins in all competitions when they travel to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Monday night.
