Andre Onana: 'Matthijs de Ligt wants Barcelona move'

By , European Football Editor | 4d
Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana claims that teammate Matthijs de Ligt wants to follow Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona in this summer's transfer window.

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has claimed that teammate Matthijs de Ligt wants to follow Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona in this summer's transfer window.

The Spanish champions fought off competition from Paris Saint-Germain to seal De Jong's signature, with the midfielder due to arrive at Camp Nou ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign.

De Ligt, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in European football.

The 19-year-old has scored nine times in 97 appearances for Ajax since stepping into the first team but is expected to move on at the end of the season.

According to Onana, who came through the youth system at Barcelona, De Ligt wants to follow De Jong to Catalonia this summer.

"De Ligt would also like to go, I talked to him several times and with both of them," Goal.com quotes Onana as saying. "He is young and can always improve, he has a lot of room for improvement."

De Ligt, who is believed to be valued in excess of £70m by Ajax, has scored three times in 35 appearances in all competitions for his Dutch side this season.
