Carles Alena 'to leave Barcelona on loan in January'

Spanish midfielder Carles Alena will leave Barcelona on loan during the January transfer window, according to a report.

Carles Alena will reportedly leave Barcelona on loan at the start of 2020.

The 21-year-old started Barca's first La Liga match of the 2019-20 season against Athletic Bilbao but was replaced at the interval and has not been seen since.

The midfielder has not even made the squad for six of his team's last eight league fixtures, and it was reported last week that Tottenham Hotspur were eyeing a January swoop.

According to Diario Sport, Barca are not prepared to allow Alena to leave on a permanent deal, but the Spanish champions plan to send him on loan in January in order to secure regular football.

The report adds that the Catalan giants would ideally like the midfielder to join another La Liga club so they can keep a close eye on his development.

Alena, who is a two-time Spain Under-21 international, was a regular for Barca during the 2018-19 campaign, contributing two goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.
