Wednesday's Barcelona transfer talk news roundup: Memphis Depay, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Barcelona on Wednesday, September 16.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Barcelona eye possible reinforcements.

The Spanish champions spent big on Antoine Griezmann last summer but missed out on a big-name striker in January and have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, meaning that selling players rather than buying could be their priority this summer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news from the Camp Nou.

Wednesday morning's Barcelona transfer talk news roundup:

Report: Barcelona agree £28m deal for Lyon forward Memphis Depay

Barcelona are reportedly close to bringing in forward Memphis Depay after agreeing a £28m fee with Lyon.

La Liga giants Barca have showed an interest in the Dutchman since ex-Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman took over at Camp Nou last month.

After a couple of weeks of negotiations, the Daily Mail claims that Depay is now just one step away from becoming a Barcelona player.

The 26-year-old is set to undergo a medical this week, it is claimed, and it is hoped that he will be part of Koeman's squad for their league opener with Villarreal on September 27.

Depay has revived his career at Lyon after arriving from Manchester United in 2015, scoring 57 goals in 140 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.

A separate report suggests that Barca were prepared to offer young right-back Emerson to Lyon in part-exchange for the Netherlands international.

Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu 'demands Lionel Messi take a pay cut'

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is reportedly ready to request that Lionel Messi take a pay cut at Camp Nou.

Despite the precarious financial situation at the Catalan giants, Bartomeu has refused to allow Messi to leave the club before the end of his contract in 2021.

However, at a time when tension remains between the two parties, it appears that the club's long-serving superstar will now be asked to reduce his wages.

According to Deportes Cuatro, Bartomeu will demand that the 33-year-old takes the lead when it comes to helping Barcelona balance their books.

The request is due to be made during the pair's first face-to-face talks since the saga which transpired earlier in the summer.
