Report: Arsenal launch £5m bid for Gabriel Martinelli

A report claims that Arsenal have followed up their initial interest in Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli by tabling a £5m offer, which Ituano are mulling over.

Highly-rated Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli has reportedly been made the subject of a £5m bid by Premier League side Arsenal.

The 17-year-old winger has been used 31 times by Brazilian club Ituano over the last couple of seasons, helping them to finish as runners-up in their league.

Martinelli has already had a trial with Manchester United, but Fox Sports Brasil reports that it is Arsenal who lead the way for the youngster's signature as they have stepped forward with a bid.

Ituano are said to be mulling over whether to accept the offer or instead hold out for more, as Spanish giants Barcelona may also be keen, while Championship sides Leeds United and Middlesbrough have also been credited with an interest.

However, a separate report implies that any switch to an English club may hinge on whether the UK exits the EU, with Ituano looking to gain an Italian passport.
