Shkodran Mustafi's father denies claims Arsenal could terminate contract

The father of Arsenal outcast Shkodran Mustafi rubbishes reports claiming that his son is in talks to terminate his Gunners deal this month.

The father of Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has denied reports claiming that the defender's contract at the Emirates could be terminated.

The Gunners have already trimmed their wage bill by terminating the deals of Mesut Ozil and Sokratis - both of whom were frozen out of the team under Mikel Arteta.

Mustafi has also fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium with just three Premier League appearances this term, and recent reports claimed that he was set to become the third Arsenal player to see his contract ripped up in January.

However, the 28-year-old's father Kujtim Mustafi has rubbished such talk, telling football.london's Chris Wheatley: "We have a contract with Arsenal until 30th June 2021. There are no plans to terminate his contract right now."

Mustafi's only starts in Arsenal colours this season have come in the EFL Cup and Europa League, and he is expected to move on when his deal expires in six months' time.

Lazio have been credited with an interest in the former Valencia man, while Barcelona were previously linked with a shock swoop.
