Mikel Arteta 'wanted by Girona as manager'

Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta is reportedly being targeted by La Liga club Girona as a replacement for the departing Pablo Machin.

Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta is reportedly wanted by Spanish club Girona as their new manager.

Girona finished 10th in La Liga last season under the management of Pablo Machin, but the Spaniard has been strongly linked with the Sevilla job.

Arteta was close to becoming the successor of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, yet the former Gunners player missed out to Unai Emery.

Sport claims that Arteta is a potential candidate to replace Machin this summer to kickstart the 36-year-old's managerial career.

The report adds that Pep Guardiola's assistant manager Domenec Torrent is also being considered.
