On-loan Bayern Munich attacker James Rodriguez is excited by the prospect of joining Arsenal, according to a report.

The Colombia international is 16 months into a two-year spell with Bayern from European champions Real Madrid.

Bayern have the option to sign James on a permanent deal in the summer, but a return to the Bernabeu appears more likely at this point.

Spanish outlet Don Balon suggests that Arsenal have now emerged as contenders to land the 27-year-old, with a sum of around £80m expected to be enough to secure his signature.

Despite the hefty transfer fee, it is claimed that Gunners chiefs are willing to make the investment to please manager Unai Emery, and the player himself is open to making the switch.

James has appeared 11 times for Bayern in all competitions this season.
