Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Manchester City's four new signings for the character that they have shown since their arrival at the club.

The Citizens have added Erling Braut Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega to their ranks this summer, while January addition Julian Alvarez has also joined up with the first-team squad.

Haaland became City's first major signing of the summer when the Premier League champions activated the £51m release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract on July 1.

City have also forked out an initial £42m to sign Phillips from boyhood club Leeds United, while Ortega and Alvarez have joined from Arminia Bielefeld and River Plate respectively, the former joining on a free transfer and the latter signing for around £14.2m.

All four players have been training with the first team on their tour of the USA and Guardiola has stated that the quartet have made good first impressions this summer.

When questioned by mancity.com on how his new signings have settled in at the club, Guardiola said: "Step by step. It will not happen in one day or two days.

"We cannot put too much pressure on these players. We need to get them houses, apartments in Manchester, and in the sessions what we want them to do will increase.

"The first impressions of Julian, Kalvin, Erling, and Stefan were really good – they seem like good people. Having good vibes in the locker room is more important than tactics."

Guardiola has also spoken about the absence of first-team trio Phil Foden, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan, who are all training with the club's Under-23s squad in Croatia after failing to meet the USA's entry requirements.

"It's disappointing, I would like them to be here," the Spaniard told reporters via the Daily Mail. "Our second season, when we ended up with 100 points, was the only season when we were all together.

"Since then it's always been four players arriving and then a week later another one. We started those seasons with incredible problems. Every year we drop points.

"This season I thought maybe we will be all together but due to the personal situation of these players. But it's what it is, we are going to move forward and we have to adapt.

"Pre-season there can be three, four, five weeks but now it's over. But they are fit, they are training with the Under-23s and they'll come back and join us and they'll be fine."

Centre-back Aymeric Laporte is another City star who has not travelled to the States as he continues his recovery from injury in England.

The Citizens are scheduled to face Club America in Houston on Thursday, before Guardiola will renew acquaintances with former club Bayern Munich in Wisconsin on Sunday.

City will then return to England for the Community Shield against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on July 30, before beginning the defence of their Premier League title with an opening fixture away at West Ham United on August 7.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has played down suggestions linking the Citizens with a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, and he has also confirmed that Oleksandr Zinchenko is leaving the club ahead of his proposed move to Arsenal. body check tags ::
