Arsenal have announced that first-team manager Mikel Arteta and women's team manager Jonas Eidevall have both signed new deals with the club.

Arteta is now contracted to the Gunners until the end of the 2024-25 season, while Eidevall will be staying on until the summer of 2024 after penning fresh terms.

Men's first-team manager Arteta has guided Arsenal back into Champions League contention this season after taking only half a season to win his first trophy in North London in the form of the 2019-20 FA Cup.

The 40-year-old's exploits at the Emirates led to links with the Barcelona job before Xavi's appointment, while Manchester City were rumoured to have identified their former coach as Pep Guardiola's possible successor.

However, Arteta has now committed his future to Arsenal for the next three years, telling arsenal.com: "I'm excited, grateful and really, really happy today.

"When I spoke to Josh [Kroenke] he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he's said, and that Stan [Kroenke] has said when I've been together with both of them, they've always delivered.

"We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League.

"We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level."

Meanwhile, women's manager Eidevall has steered his side into Women's Super League title contention during his first year at the helm, with the Swede replacing Joe Montemurro at the end of last season.

Arsenal sit just one point behind WSL leaders Chelsea heading into the final weekend, with Eidevall's side taking on West Ham United and needing to better the Blues' result against Manchester United.

Eidevall's side also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League before being eliminated by Wolfsburg, while they were defeated by Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Speaking about his new deal to arsenal.com, the 39-year-old said: "It's great, It allows me to continue to work for a club that I love so much and be around people that I really, really like, and to be able to achieve things together, so I'm really looking forward to that."

Josh Kroenke, son of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, added: "My father and I are delighted to have extended both Mikel's and Jonas' contracts. It provides stability and clarity for the future and helps us all move forward together effectively.

"Mikel's commitment and passion are clear for everyone to see. We are confident that as we move forward, he will get us back to competing for the top trophies in the game.

"Turning to Jonas, he has had a fantastic start to his career in England. He has done a terrific job with the team, and we are in contention for the title on the last weekend. We are confident that he will continue to take us forward in the years ahead."

Sporting director Edu also hailed the new contracts as a major development for the club, and the ex-Arsenal midfielder hinted that a big summer in the transfer market would also be on the agenda.

"I think the timing is perfect. I really believe the message will be a big lift to everyone. To the fans, to the club, to the players, to Mikel. It's important to show everyone where we want to go as a club. We are going to face a big summer again and it's important to have our manager here," Edu added.

Arteta has now taken charge of 127 games for Arsenal since being appointed Unai Emery's permanent successor in December 2019, posting 69 wins, 22 draws and 36 defeats in the process.

Meanwhile, Eidevall has guided the women's team to 25 victories in all competitions so far this term, and his side are the highest scorers in the WSL with 63 strikes from 21 matches - an average of three per game. body check tags ::
