Mikel Arteta hits out at Premier League over fixture scheduling

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hits out at the Premier League over his club's fixture schedule following Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a sarcastic response to his side's congested fixture list in the Premier League.

The Gunners' five-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Liverpool on Wednesday night, with Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino on target in a 2-0 Reds win.

Arsenal now have less than 72 hours to recover before Saturday lunchtime's trip to Aston Villa, and they will be forced to navigate the same period of rest between fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United next month.

Arteta made his feelings on the fixture schedule clear in his post-match press conference, telling reporters: "Thank you so much to the Premier League. Very, very happy.

"They have done that and then done it again before we play Chelsea and [Manchester] United. Thank you very much to the PL. It is not fair."

The Gunners remain in fourth place despite Wednesday's defeat, with Man United one point behind having played two games more than the North London outfit.

Arsenal also equalled an unwanted scoreless club record as their attackers were nullified by Jurgen Klopp's defence on Wednesday night. body check tags ::
