How Argentina could line up against Peru

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Argentina could line up for Thursday's World Cup 2022 Qualifying clash with Peru.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is sweating over the fitness of Joaquin Correa ahead of Thursday's World Cup 2022 Qualifying battle with Peru.

The Inter Milan attacker was brought on as a substitute for the final 25 minutes of the weekend's victory over Uruguay but will need to be assessed after suffering a knock in that contest.

As a result, Scaloni could opt to stick with the two-man strikeforce of Lautaro Martinez - who shook off a muscular problem to start and score last time out - and record-breaker Lionel Messi, who bagged his 80th international goal against Uruguay to become the first South American to hit that landmark.

The hosting manager otherwise has very few selection concerns to work around, with Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna hoping to come back into contention after being forced to miss the win over Uruguay with a minor injury.

Nicolas Tagliafico could hold his place in defence alongside Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi if Acuna is not risked, but Scaloni could freshen things up at right-back with the introduction of Gonzalo Montiel.

Leandro Paredes and Rodrigo de Paul should both be fine to go again after being substituted in the win over Uruguay, but Angel Di Maria will hope to displace Giovani Lo Celso on the right as Nicolas Gonzalez holds his place on the left.

Argentina possible starting lineup: E. Martinez; Montiel, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; Di Maria, Paredes, De Paul, Gonzalez; Messi, L. Martinez body check tags ::
