Madonna's manager announces that the pop icon has spent several days in intensive care with a "serious bacterial infection".

Madonna's manager has announced that the pop icon has spent several days in intensive care with a "serious bacterial infection".

The 64-year-old was admitted to hospital on Saturday but is now said to be on the mend and is expected to make "a full recovery".

Madonna had been due to begin her seven-month Celebration tour in Canada next month but the dates have now been postponed indefinitely until a point that she is well enough to reschedule.

Talent manager Guy Oseary said: "On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

Known as the 'Queen of Pop', Madonna ranks as the best-selling female recording artist of all time, as well as the highest-grossing female touring artist worldwide.
