Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has given extensive teasers about what's to come on the soap in early 2022 - and for Yasmeen (Shelley King), there's a new romance on the horizon.
It's been just over a year since Yasmeen finally broke free of her abusive husband Geoff, although she struggled with the repercussions of his mental torment throughout 2021.
Over the last few weeks she has struck up a friendship with Kelly's homeless friend Stu (Bill Fellows) and MacLeod has revealed that it is set to blossom into something more.
"What Yasmeen ent through with Geoff was colossal psychologically and has lifelong ramifications, so we want to explore that but not in a way that feels like retreading old ground," he told reporters.
"As she gets closer to Stu, can she learn to trust again or is her emotional circuitry irrevocably damaged to the extent it will cost her future happiness?
"We imagine Stu as a bit like what Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) might be like in his mid-60s, he's a little rough and ready and likes to carouse and cause trouble which messes with Yasmeen's head, as she disentangles to what degree Stu is like Geoff. It's a complicated, unique love story and I'm staying tight-lipped about how it ends!
"We like the re-exploring of Yasmeen's psyche after Geoff – it would be easy to move on and forget it happened. In reality, it's such a colossal psychological bomb with lifelong after-effects."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
