The Premier League suspends its broadcasting deal with Russian broadcaster Match TV amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Premier League has decided to suspend its broadcasting deal for the competition in Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

A new deal with broadcaster Match TV was due to begin at the start of next season and last for six years, however the league has decided to pause the arrangement indefinitely as the war in eastern Europe looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

According to Sport Business, the league informed the 20 clubs of its decision at their AGM last week without taking a vote.

Match TV is owned by financial firm Gazprombank, which has strong links to the Russian government and is currently under sanctions by the UK and US.

In March the Premier League suspended its then-current deal with online broadcaster Rambler and becomes the first major European league to pre-emptively act similarly ahead of the new season.
