Australia have ended day two of the fourth Ashes Test with a 403-run advantage over England, despite Stuart Broad taking five wickets for the tourists.

Resuming on 126-3, the Baggy Greens dominated yet another rain-interrupted session with Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja quickly taking the game away from their opponents.

Broad stuck to remove Smith for 67, ending a 115-run partnership in the process, but Khawaja continued on his way to a ninth Test century on his first outing in nearly two-and-a-half years.

The middle order fell around him without making a significant contribution, although that set up Pat Cummins (34*) and Nathan Lyon (16) to frustrate England in the evening session.

Khawaja was finally out for 137 - Broad picking up his eighth five-wicket haul against Australia - but the hosts eventually declared on 416-8, leaving England with five overs at the end of the day.

Although Zak Crawley survived edging through to the slips off a no-ball from Mitchell Starc, it felt like a sign of things to come, and England must show resilience from 13-0 when play resumes on Friday. body check tags ::
