Katie Taylor becomes a two-time undisputed world champion by defeating light-welterweight belt holder Chantelle Cameron in a thrilling rematch in Dublin.

Katie Taylor has won the world light-welterweight belts with a thrilling victory over Chantelle Cameron in their rematch in Dublin.

Back in May, the legendary Irish fighter suffered her first defeat as a professional as she lost out to 140lbs belt holder Cameron.

While Cameron was a deserved winner on that occasion, Taylor was a justified victor this time around, prevailing by majority decision as the judges awarded her verdicts of 98-92 and 96-94 with the other card reading 95-95.

Cameron has reason to feel aggrieved over the wider card with some of the rounds hard to score, yet Taylor was the superior boxer on this occasion, shrewdly letting her combinations go and smothering Cameron's work.

The away fighter had to deal with a sizeable cut on her forehead sustained from a clash of heads during the early stages, with the doctor twice having a look at its severity before the four-round mark.

Although blood constantly flowed from the injury, it did not impact on the course of the fight as both women were willing to trade, with many anticipating that Cameron would come out on top of such exchanges.

Despite never coming close to stopping Cameron and vice versa, Taylor's punches appeared to have more spite on them than the first fight, even though they rarely discouraged Cameron from coming forward.

Nevertheless, Taylor - now 37 years of age - was able to build a lead by the halfway stage and she fought and held smartly to ensure that Cameron was always chasing.

With Taylor openly calling for a trilogy fight at Croke Park, the expectation is that these pair will lock horns yet again in 2024, with both in line to fight for legacy as well as the biggest paydays of their career. body check tags ::
