The San Francisco Giants have won the World Series for the third time in five seasons after beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in game seven at Kauffman Stadium.

A series which has included a number of comfortable victories ended in tense fashion as San Francisco pitcher Madison Bumgarner held his nerve late on to guide the Giants to another title.

The Giants took an early lead in the top of the second inning, but an immediate response from the Royals levelled the score at 2-2.

San Francisco crucially pulled ahead once again in the fourth inning when Michael Morse's hit allowed Pablo Sandoval to reach home and give the visitors the advantage.

Bumgarner took over from the impressive Jeremy Affeldt to finish the Royals off with an excellent stretch of pitching which handed the Giants their eighth title.
