Result: Dodgers win longest game in World Series history to cut Red Sox lead to 2-1

The marathon was concluded less than 17 hours before the two teams meet again in Game Four.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the longest game in World Series history to reduce the Boston Red Sox’s overall lead to 2-1.

Max Muncy’s home run gave the Dodgers a 3-2 win at the bottom of the 18th innings.

A game that began at 5.10pm on Friday ended at 12.30am on Saturday when Muncy sent Nathan Eovaldi’s 90 miles per hour fastball into the stand.

The seven hours and 20 minutes marathon was concluded less than 17 hours before the two teams must do it all again in Game Four.

Eovaldi was scheduled to start on Saturday but he was pressed into duty in the 12th inning as the Red Sox sought to take a potentially decisive lead in the series.

He produced six scoreless innings before Muncy dispatched his 97th pitch into the stands, the most by a reliever in World Series history.

Dodgers rookie Walker Buehler had earlier delivered seven scoreless innings, 108 pitches and seven strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and didn’t allow a single walk.

The Red Sox had tied it at 1-1 in the eighth inning when Jackie Bradley Jr matched Joc Pederson’s home run in the third.

They took a 2-1 lead in the 13th, but the Dodgers replied at the bottom of the inning before Muncy eventually sent the crowd home happy.
