Four-time NFL MVP winner Aaron Rodgers will end his 18-year stint with the Green Bay Packers to join the New York Jets.

Despite signing a contract extension worth a staggering £115.2m with the Packers last year, Rodgers announced his desire to transfer to the Jets last month.

The trade will see the Jets receive Rodgers and the Packers' first-round and fifth-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft - which begins on Thursday - while the Green Bay outfit take the Jets' first, second and sixth-round picks.

Furthermore, a conditional second-round pick for the 2024 could become a first for the Packers if Rodgers features in at least 65% of the Jets' snaps in the upcoming season.

"There's still things that need to be done. It's not finalized, but we do expect it to be done in the next couple of days," Packers general manager Brian Gutenkunst told a press conference.

"We're expecting to have this done before the draft. I know this, he will always be a Packer. I have so much respect for Aaron and the person he is. He has done so much for this organisation.

"He'll be missed. Players like that don't come around very often. He'll be one of the best who has ever done it around here. But we are very excited about where we are going. This has all got to get finalised to get done. But we have a great appreciation for him."

Rodgers, 39, won his only Super Bowl to date with the Packers in 2011 and was named the NFL's MVP for the 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021 seasons.
